1. Distillation method: Heat star anise powder with water to evaporate the volatile oil with water vapor, and then condense the water vapor into liquid through a condensation device to obtain star anise volatile oil. This method is easy to operate and has high extraction efficiency, but it may cause loss of some components. ‌

2. Solvent extraction method: Use organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone to extract star anise volatile oil. Mix star anise powder with solvent, dissolve the volatile oil in the solvent by heating, stirring, etc., and then separate the solvent from the volatile oil by evaporation or extraction. This method has a good extraction effect, but may introduce problems such as solvent residue.

3. Rapid extraction method:

The rapid extraction method includes the following steps:

Step 1. Select fresh star anise fruit, crush it and soak it.

Step 2. Ball milling and centrifugal solid-liquid separation.

Step 3. Reduced pressure distillation to recover ethanol and concentrate.

Step 4. Ethyl acetate extraction.

Step 5. Cool and separate the supernatant and the precipitate.

Step 6. Vacuum distill the supernatant and evaporate the precipitate to dryness. ‌

Uses of star anise oil

Star anise oil is not only an excellent food seasoning and natural spice, but also has high medical value. It can improve the digestive system, inhibit excessive peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract, promote gastric juice secretion and help digestion. Therefore, star anise oil is also an important raw material for major pharmaceutical companies.
