Cinnamon is not just a kitchen spice, but also a great help for managing blood sugar in diabetics.. It can enhance insulin efficiency and clear metabolic pathways, addressing blood sugar issues at their root. Add 3 grams of cinnamon when stewing meat, or sprinkle 1 gram of cinnamon powder on stir-fries—three simple steps to help stabilize blood sugar.

Many people with diabetes strictly control their diet, yet their blood sugar still fluctuates. This is actually because their insulin function has declined. Insulin acts like a "transporter," responsible for carrying sugar from the bloodstream to cells for energy production. If it becomes "inefficient" (insulin resistance), sugar accumulates in the blood, and blood sugar levels naturally spike.

Today, I'll share a common spice—cinnamon—which can warm and regulate the body's constitution while helping improve insulin sensitivity. Adding a small amount when stewing meat or cooking can assist in stabilizing blood sugar.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, cinnamon's ability to regulate blood sugar lies in three key aspects:

First, its warming nature replenishes Yang energy, enhances the body's metabolic capacity, and helps insulin transport blood sugar more efficiently.

Second, its warming properties dry dampness, reducing the obstruction of Qi by phlegm-dampness and clearing the "pathway" for insulin to function.

Third, it warms and nourishes the Spleen Yang. Since the Spleen governs transportation and transformation, this improves the digestion and absorption of sugar in the spleen and stomach, preventing sugar from directly accumulating in the bloodstream and thus helping to stabilize blood sugar.

Modern research also shows that components in cinnamon, such as cinnamaldehyde, can help improve insulin sensitivity and reduce residual sugar in the blood. It is particularly suitable for patients with type 2 diabetes or those with high blood sugar.Below are 3 easy cinnamon recipes to stabilize blood sugar daily

I. Cinnamon recipes to stabilize blood sugar -Cinnamon-Stewed Meat

cinnamon stewed meat
  • Blood Sugar Regulation Principle: Its warming nature neutralizes the greasiness of meat, reduces phlegm-dampness, and slows the absorption of fats and carbohydrates, preventing rises in blood sugar and blood lipids.

  • Specific Steps:

  • Prepare ingredients: 500g meat (cut into chunks), 1-2 small pieces of cinnamon (3-5g; soak dried cinnamon in warm water for 10 minutes until soft), 3 slices of ginger, scallions, and unsweetened light soy sauce.

  • Blanch the meat: Place the meat in a pot of cold water with cooking wine, skim off the foam, and remove.

  • Stew: Add water, meat, ginger, and scallions to a clay pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for 40 minutes (1 hour for beef). Once the meat is tender, add the cinnamon and simmer for another 10-15 minutes. Season with light soy sauce.

II. Cinnamon recipes to stabilize blood sugar-Cinnamon-Stir-Fried Vegetables

  • Blood Sugar Regulation Principle: Slows the breakdown of starchy vegetables, reduces glucose release, warms the Spleen, enhances carbohydrate metabolism, and prevents sugar accumulation.

  • Specific Steps:

  • Prepare ingredients: 300g vegetables (cut into chunks/sections), 1g cinnamon powder (pure and unsweetened), minced garlic, and olive oil.

  • Stir-fry the vegetables: Sauté minced garlic in oil until fragrant, add the vegetables and stir-fry for 2 minutes, then add 50ml of water and simmer for 3 minutes.

  • Season: Stir-fry uncovered until the vegetables are cooked through, then sprinkle with cinnamon powder and stir well before serving.

III. Cinnamon recipes to stabilize blood sugar-Cinnamon and Poria Cocos Tea

  • Blood Sugar Regulation Principle: Cinnamon replenishes Yang energy, while Poria cocos strengthens the Spleen and eliminates dampness. This combination improves the constitution characterized by "Yang deficiency and internal obstruction of phlegm-dampness," enhances the body's ability to metabolize sugar, and increases insulin sensitivity.

  • Specific Steps:

  • Ingredients: 2g cinnamon (powder or small pieces), 5g Poria cocos (soaked and broken into pieces), 500ml water.

  • Cook: Add the ingredients and water to a pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. Strain (cinnamon powder can be sprinkled directly into the tea).

  • Serve: Drink when warm. For added flavor, 1-2 wolfberries can be added. Do not add honey or rock sugar.
