Fennel planting scale in China is mainly produced in the northwest and north China, with distinct characteristics in planting scale and yield across different regions.

Xinjiang is a core producing area: In 2024, the planting area of fennel in Alar City reached approximately 156,180 acres (accounting for over 50% of the XPCC), with a total output of 55,000 tons (accounting for 65% of the XPCC), driving the planting scale in southern Xinjiang to about 575,400 acres. Yuepuhu County has an annual planting area of over 19,728 acres and an output of more than 12,000 tons, with a national market share of 65.34%. In 2025, the planting area of fennel in Bachu County was around 36,661.2 acres; in 2024, a town in Xinhua County planted more than 156.18 acres of fennel, with an average yield of about 90 kg per mu (equivalent to 14.796 kg per acre).

Gansu takes Minqin County as the core, whose production capacity accounts for 70% of the province: In 2024, the planting area expanded due to the high price in 2023, and in 2025, the planting area decreased by 30% due to low prices.
The fennel from Haiyuan County, Ningxia has obtained the National Agricultural Product Geographical Indication certification, but there is no latest data on its planting scale and output for the time being.
Other regions: In 2023, the planting area of fennel in Maigaiti County was about 9,962.64 acres, and the net planting area in Kashgar Prefecture was approximately 44,552.4 acres. In 2024, the total planting area of the region mainly including Yuepuhu County and Bachu County was around 108,717.72 acres, with an output of 68,100 tons.

On the whole, the planting scale of various regions is dynamically adjusted according to local conditions and market changes. By optimizing planting modes and technologies, the yield and quality of fennel are guaranteed, promoting the sustainable development of the fennel industry.
